Alpina's Alternative to the BMW M5

Alpina, which has been tuning BMWs for years, has come up with a competitor to the new M5. It develops the same amount of power, reaches 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph Alpina does not believe in 155 mph limiters for its cars. As a result, it claims this is the worlds fastest production sedan and not many people would argue.

Heart of the BMW Alpina B5 based on the 5 Series, like the M5 - is BMWs 4.4 liter V-8. BMWs M Division does without turbos and superchargers. Not Alpina; they have adopted a centrifugal compressor, engine driven, to boost power throughout the speed range and produce the same power ouput as the BMW V-10.

Bu the system has a neat twist. At idling and when driving at low speed, the compressor does not operate, so gas mileage is quite good. A throttle plate upstream of the supercharger cuts it in and out according to load.

Mighty powerful with 500 bhp

This is a mighty powerful engine; at 2,500 rpm it develops 200 bhp, and ramps up to 500 bhp at only 5,500 rpm, so the character of the engine is completely different from BMWs V-10. Thanks to the supercharger, theres massive torque over a big range, with the maximum of 516 lb ft available from 4,250 to 5,250 rpm terrific mid-range power.

The engine drives through a ZF six-speed automatic, and the brakes, wheels and tires are all upgraded. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 2s, 245/40ZR 19 at the front and 275/35ZR 19 at the rear these are just a bit narrower than those on the M5. The Alpina is also over 200 lb lighter than the M5 at 3,790 lb. Not a copy, a different approach to getting similar performance. Do you prefer revving to 8,000 rpm or getting a massive thump in the back at 4,000-5,500 rpm?

If you fancy something a bit more nimble, try the BMW Alpina B3 S Coupe. It is powered by BMWs straight six, bored out to 3.3 liter. It churns out 305 bhp at 6,300 rpm. Good for 168 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds. A true competitor for many sports cars.

Annuity Marketing Tip: Use a Real Postage Stamp

Are you marketing insurance products to the senior market? Have you developed a system for keeping in touch with your prospects and clients? Would you like to have greater success in communicating with this target market? Ask yourself this question!

Do you own a postage machine? Throw it away and never use it again. Never use a postage machine to communicate with a prospect or a client. Never!

The next time you look at your mail notice how it is posted. If a stamp is used then you are 87% more likely to open it than a bulk permit piece. 87% is a major number and one that you can take advantage of.

Do you communicate with your annuity clients via email? Stop and do not use it again. Email is fine for friends and family but do not ever use it to contact a senior client or prospect. Always use the US Mail service.

Your obvious question is why? Why not use the internet and make it easy to communicate. The answer is very simple, it is way too impersonal. Also, only 7% of seniors over the age of 65 will use the internet as a primary source of communication, they all prefer the US Mail. An easy experiment is to go to your local post office at about 10 am and observe who comes and goes. You will notice our target market: Seniors. Seniors love to get the mail and for many it becomes a habit and a social opportunity. Stand by the waste basket in the post office and listen to the comments about the junk mail, they all hate it and yet they all touch it, look at it, and often read it.

But there is more tricks to the trade of communicating with the senior group. Not only is the stamp important but how the stamp is put on the envelope is a big part of the success. Always put the stamp on slightly crooked! If it is on crooked it will have a higher chance of being opened. Remember it is all about psychological communication and the first step is getting the envelope opened. By placing the stamp on slightly cooked shows it wasnt done mechanically by a computer. This implies a personal touch and it invites the prospect to open the letter.

Selling insurance and annuity products is very simple once a relationship is developed with good communication is the beginning.

Why Niche Marketing Makes Sense For Mortgage Professionals

If you are currently struggling in your mortgage business or relatively new to the field of loan origination, you might want to consider changing your marketing tactics and concentrating on a specific niche.

Niche Marketing is quite simply the process of concentrating on a specific segment of the market, rather than the entire market. You're probably asking: Won't that reduce my mortgage prospects and limit the number of loans that I originate? The answer: When done correctly, absolutely not! In fact...it should not only improve your business...it will reduce your marketing costs as well...which means more bucks in your pocket.

So many of the mortgage people I have mentored have literally thrown away valuable marketing dollars in their quest of reaching too broad a market. They had become a "jack of all trades and a master of none." This little clich has become an everyday figure of speech that describes anyone who is passably competent with various skills...but is not outstandingly brilliant in any one particular area.

Niche Marketing is the most effective way to break through the tons of competing mortgage marketing material and be heard by your target customer. Develop a good Marketing Niche where you can clearly stand out from the rest. Concentrate on a niche...become an expert...and you will become widely known and revered...and, you will be sought out continually for the knowledge you possess.

If you don't have a Marketing Niche, follow these simple steps to get started:

1. Identify your niche. Make a list of all of the possible niches you could market based on your knowledge, location, and interests. Your list may include a market segment, or a loan type, or even a geographical location.

Here are just a few examples to get that brain of yours into list mode: First-time Home Buyers; FSBOs; No-Doc Loans; Government Loans (FHA and VA); Construction Loans; A Specific Neighborhood (Real Estate Professionals do this one a lot); Schools: Service Workers; Reverse Mortgages; The Credit Challenged; Foreclosures; Home Improvement Loans (Refinance); and Investor Loans.

Spend some time here and pick a niche that you can throw your heart and mind into.

2. Define your niche. Write down all of the specifics and a detailed description of your niche. You need to answer these questions: Who are my customers? What kind of homes do they own or want to own? What is their estimated income? Do they have children? Where do they get information from?

The more detailed your description...the more effective you can be with your mortgage marketing material and what you need to learn to reach them.

3. Develop a niche Marketing Plan. In some cases you may be able to purchase a marketing plan that will get you started. More times than not, you'll have to develop a Marketing Plan for your niche. Ask yourself these questions: What do I need to do to become an expert and a trusted advisor in my niche? What is the best way to reach the customers in my Niche?

The more details in your Marketing Plan, the better designed and targeted your marketing material will be...and the result will be a response that far exceeds your previous experience.

In summary, make a commitment to your Niche Marketing. Continue to educate yourself about your niche. Have a written plan and stick to it. Commit to the long term and you'll find that prospects will react positively to your targeted messages. They will thank you for the information you provide, pass it along to friends and family and, best of all, they will be happy to refer you to others that may have mortgage needs. Yes...birds of a feather do flock together!

Alarm System Industry Changes Will Effect All Security Alarm Users in 2006

I have made it my business to watch out for subtle security alarm industry changes over the years. Each and every year I can see these changes slowly take shape and take hold on the Alarm Companies that provide systems for consumers like you and me.

The majority of these changes in the past went unnoticed by the average Alarm System protected household and business. They were slight adjustments made by the Alarm Dealers, Manufactures and Service Providers and unless you were looking, you missed most of them

The changes that I have seen take place in late 2005 and early 2006 will definitely effect you, and if you dont know about them could cause you great hardship.

The first big change is the fact that more and more consumers are switching from regular phone lines to VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) phone lines. These phone lines are tied to your PC and cost a fraction of what the Bells are getting for local and long distance phone services.

As the majority of security alarm systems report over the phone lines, any changes in your phone service after install could effect the reliability of your monitoring service. You could and should send a test signal often, but the problem is that your signal may transfer perfectly over VoIP this time, and not work when you need it most.

The larger Alarm Companies are refusing to monitor these VoIP signals at all, until the phone companies can prove reliability in signals transferred over these types of lines. Many of the smaller companies are taking a chance that it will work, in a way gambling with your life safety.

There are alternatives available for you if you have VoIP as I do, and you can read more about VoIP and alarm systems at the following link: expertsknow.com

The next change that you need to know about is ECV (Enhanced Call Verification).

ECV has been a topic of discussion for years between the alarm dealers, their governing agencies and the local authorities such as Police, Fire and Ambulance. Did you know that the majority of alarms are false alarms? Burglars have plenty of victims without security alarm systems to choose from, so dispatches during actual burglaries are a small portion of them.

The largest numbers of alarm dispatches from the monitoring companies are due to user error. Home and business owners might set their security system off on accident and if the phone lines were tied up because they are trying to call in, the monitoring companies would dispatch the authorities. Or maybe they took too much time leaving and the system went off as they drove away.

In defense of the people who had actual emergencies, many police departments around the world STOPPED RESPONDING to alarm systems. After many legal battles between the alarm industry and local governments, they agreed to test ECV for a few years in certain markets and make a decision in the last quarter of 2005

The reduction in false alarms across the board was astounding!

Heres how ECV works

When your alarm goes off your alarm company will have to:

Call the premise first and get a pass-code.

If there is no contact with a pass-code holder they must call each person on your call list, until a live person says Please send the police" or "this is not a false alarm. Very often they will reach the alarm owner on a cell and they will say "I just left there and must have set it off" preventing a false dispatch.

If there is no contact, there is a good possibility that no dispatch will be made.

If a dispatch is made without this ECV, the authorities will probably not respond! if they do, it will most likely be a response with low priority.

Heres what you can do to help insure a dispatch is made when you need it

Many alarm companies will be switching to 2-way voice systems as the only type alarm system they will install. This means that as an alarm is triggered, a microphone opens up allowing the monitoring station to talk to you without a phone call. If they hear any activity in the house or business, this will be considered a verified response and a dispatch will be authorized.

2-way voice can be added to many existing systems. I would be wary of the Alarm Dealer that does not notify you of these changes, or at the very least be willing to have a knowledgeable discussion with you when you call to talk to them about it.

Another way to ensure verified response is to have perimeter and interior devices on seperate zones. If your alarm system reports in "Extended Reporting" it will show the motions of a burglar with multiple signals, and justify a high priority dispatch.

It is important for you to know that ECV will not effect your panic buttons and distress code. These signals will be handled as they always were.

I would also advise that you take a few moments to call your local authorities and discuss their alarm response policies with them. This way you are hearing it from the persons that will make the decision that may safe a life.

There is no doubt that your Alarm System is a very important part of your security plan. However it is only as good as the consumer that depends on it, being educated on its use and limitations.

Internal Alarm Clock A Time Management Tool?

Some of us are blessed with an internal alarm clock. A little voice that wakes you up two minutes before your alarm goes off. This may be a blessing if that little voice also alerts you ten minutes before your sons soccer game or before the school bell rings. However I dont have that blessing.

Of course I have the internal ability to wake up 30 minutes BEFORE I have to wake up after only five hours of sleep. Unfortunately that alarm doesnt seem to carry over into the waking hours. A thirty minute heads up would be handy.

Not having that constant heads up, instead, I wear the super mom cape as I leap over shoes, bags and the cat in a flurry of movement. Knowing full well that the school bell is going to ring in ten minutes and the drive is a minimum of 11 minutes and three seconds if no one is in the cross walk and that light isnt red. Of course, I will have to drive laps to locate a place I can stop to let my son in. All the parking spots are taken by those nannies with an internal clock.

I thought I had the alarm clock before I had children. As a professional Nanny I was never late for a soccer game, a music lesson, or birthday party. It turns out there are two types of internal alarm clocks. The one reserved for those of us who dont have children under the age of 18. This one allows you to roll out of bed just before your alarm goes off after a night of 8 hours of restful sleep.

Then theres the other alarm clock. The one called the mom alarm clock. This internal alarm wakes you up at three minutes before the baby needs to be fed, or two minutes before your toddler wets the bed, or 8 minutes before your five year old wakes up with growing pains. Sometimes these alarms are all in the same night. The mom alarm clock results in a pure hatred of the real alarm clock that wakes you up at 7 am as the children are peacefully sleeping telling you to start your day.

Luckily I have some other time management tips under my cape to keep me on time and organized as a mother. Despite the internal mom alarm clock working against me at night, my children make it to their soccer games and birthday parties, usually with the present and cleats in the bag. Was that the blue bag or the red one?

Fort Myers Vacation Rentals

Snowbirds, families, couples, and generally anyone in need of a little sunshine-themed rest and relaxation have many options to sort through in the ever-ready vacation play land known as Florida. This panhandle is practically overflowing with possibilities, but even thought you wouldnt go wrong with any number of places, its always nice to know that the place youve settled on is a tried and true locale. Fort Myers is a crowd pleaser but it hasnt been trampled into obscurity either; picking out a comfy vacation rental and settling in for a few days could be exactly the scenario you seek.

Vacation condos and beach villas definitely have an edge. Convenience to the water as well as to historic downtown and the sprinkling of museums on hand will add depth to an otherwise mindless (in a good way) session of lounging, resting and having a good time. Come and go as you please from the home away from home that ultimately ends up calling out to you, and all will go smoothly.

Picture the feeling of waking up at your own convenience no alarm clocks, no traffic jams awaiting you. grab a shower, a cup of coffee, a ray of sunlight on the back patiograb whatever you need to make the transition into the day a pleasant one. The kitchen has everything necessary to whip up a quick breakfast before grabbing a towel and a paperback and heading down to the shore. This is one of the many possible ways to begin a sunny Fort Myers day, and there are many more hours left to fill.

Anything is possible. Take a picnic out on the boat. Go parasailing. Search for the ultimate souvenir by doing a little beachcombing. Head to the outlet malls for a bargain. Visit the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, taking in a bit of history by participating in a guided tour. Botanical gardens, parks, restaurants and even the nearby settlements of Sanibel, Captiva all make for fabulous diversions that will please your entire group.

Many villas, homes and condos in Fort Myers are practically destinations in themselves, providing enough comforts, amenities and surprises to entice renters to nest a little bit. Many properties contain Jacuzzi tubs, inviting living areas and access to swimming pools, thus it might turn out to be a common thing for everyone to socialize, play and relax without straying too far from home base. Family reunions and extended vacations fit especially well into unique vacation properties with bonus features, as everyone tends to unwind with the greatest of ease.

Besides the elbow room and prime locations that vacation rentals in Fort Myers tend to afford, there are also pluses like washers and dryers, pet-friendly policies, fold-out couches for extra visitors, and even boat docks. With dozens upon dozens of possible homes to choose from, it becomes easy to get lost online while perusing the pictures, descriptions and testimonials. Its also easy to stumble upon the perfect place sooner or later, as theres certainly one available to suit your needs and exceed your expectations.

The sooner the process is started, the better. Planning a trip that involves a Fort Myers Vacation Rental could actually be a fun experience, so begin setting it all in motion today.

Pet Insurance - Is it a Good Idea?

It seems that the cost of treatment at the vets seems to be getting more expensive with every year that passes. Before any vets reading this take offence I know that most vets still offer very good value for the treatment provided.

Personal experience has taught me to avoid nasty financial surprises when owning pets, by taking out pet insurance with a reputable provider.

When choosing a policy there are a number of key things to check for to make sure the policy you are buying meets your needs. Monthly premiums can vary quite dramatically but the cheapest premiums are not necessarily offering the best value cover insurance cover for your pet.

When considering pet insurance there are a number of areas to consider. The most obvious being the cost of the premiums and the size of your budget. Average monthly premiums vary depending on the breed of animal you are looking to insure, age, medical history, age and your location or postcode. The typical range of premiums depending on the level of cover is 10-30 pounds per month for a dog and 8- 25 for a cat.

Most policies have some form of excess per claim with the range being between 60-100 depending on the level of cover. My advice is dont be put off by what seems a relatively high figure in this case. Some policies do not have any excess, but premiums for these products tend to be higher. Recently I received a bill for nearly 500 when my dog was bitten on his ear. The injury itself was not too severe but the cost of drugs and stitches pushed overall cost up, and I was happy to get 400 of the fees back. A friend was able to reclaim more than 5000 when her beloved dog needed operations on her joints.

Pet Owners should check carefully the maximum value you can claim for any single claim or in a year. Once again, policies differ on both these figures. The typical ranges are 3000 to 7000 per year. Check carefully whether the figure quoted is for a year or per claim, as obviously this makes a big difference to the true value of your cover.

The various pet insurance companies also have differing rules regarding the age at which they will insure a pet. Some set maximum limits at which they will insure a pet up to, whilst others are happy to insure pets of any age but have an age limit for new policies. Typically the limits are about 8 years for a Dog and 10 years for a cat.

All Pet insurance companies, just like those offering human medical insurance want to know about any previous illnesses or complaints. Normally this is because they will exclude cover for conditions that the pet has shown it is susceptible to. Dont be tempted not to be honest about these matters as insurance companies will invalidate claims where a previous condition is found to be a factor, sometimes leaving hefty bills to be paid out of the claimants pocket.

When insuring a new puppy or kitten some Insurers insist on a 14 day introductory period, during which claims will not be honoured. I have fallen foul of this clause in the past when a puppy I had bought was found to suffering from a virus within 3 days of me taking it home, leaving a 600 bill to be paid from my own pocket. Happily Sam survived; this left a bitter taste in the mouth when the claim was rejected, so my advice is read the small print.

I know that for those operating on low income 120 to 300 a year can be quite a large sum of money to find annually, but I would suggest those who can find the money to do so in preference to potentially very large surprise bills.
